The presence of technology and social media has brought a new way for recruiters to source and find the talents they need. Reported by SHRM, almost 90 percent of organisations are currently using social media for recruitment while the other 9 percent are planning to use it soon. No wonder, not employing social media as part of your recruiting strategy could affect your performance in attracting top achievers in today’s talent crunch.
The problem is, however, there are plenty of social media to choose from. Albeit you can use every social media to build certain employer brand, maintaining them can be a pain in the bum. Utilising all social media you can find on the internet does not always give you the best results – because, being on more does not always mean it is better. Sometimes one or two is enough to beat the better.

For sure, you want to find the talent you need. Therefore, you need to update your social media stats and look for where your talents gather. The following list gives you information regarding recent social media stats but remember to always UPDATE it from time-to-time. Your up-to-date information will help you land the best and get the most relevant individuals.
1. LinkedIn (99Firms updates in May 2019)
Current users are over 610 million members with 303 million active monthly users. 40 percent of active users visit the site daily. Most of the users are 90 million senior-level influencers and 63 million decision-makers.
2. Facebook (Zephoria updates in October 2019)
There are over 2.45 billion monthly active users as of September 2019. 1.62 billion people log onto Facebook daily. The most common age of Facebook users are ranging from 25 to 34 with 76/100 percent of users are female while 66/100 percent are males.
3. Twitter (Oberlo updates in July 2019)
Twitter has 330 million monthly active users and 134 million daily active users. Twitter has cleansed up to 70 million fake accounts in 2018. 63 percent of Twitter users are between 35 – 65 years old. 34 percent of Twitter users are female and 66 percent are male.
4. Instagram (OmniCore updates in September 2019)
There are more than 1 billion monthly active users on Instagram and 500 more million daily active users. 52 percent of Instagram users are females and 42 percent are males. 110 million of the users are from the U.S. The user age demographics are between 18 and 34.
Social media mentioned above are the most popular social media on the internet. If you want to target more specific audiences, there are other social media such as Qzone, Tumblr, Pinterest, and Reddit that you could dive in.
Mind the geography
Another factor that determines your social media recruiting is talent’s geography. You should know and in the first approach, has a plan who and in which area you want your talents to come. For example, if you are recruiting professionals in the U.S., Reddit could be your first pick. As per our data gathered from the internet, here are some geographical social media users. You might want to gather your own data.
Facebook – largest users are from India followed by the USA, Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, and the Philippines.
Instagram – Over 80 percent of the users reside outside of the US and a few top countries, including Brazil, India, and countries throughout Europe.
Twitter – 79 percent of the user base resides outside of the U.S.
LinkedIn – 70 percent of LinkedIn members reside outside of the U.S.
VK – Social media of blue collars in Russia.
Pinterest – Over one third are from the U.S.
TikTok – It is popularly used by Chinese and 40 percent of its users located outside China.
