Oops! 6 Signs You’ve Chosen The Wrong Career Path
by Emma • จ., 22 มี.ค. 2021 05:21ก่อนเที่ยง
The idea of growing a steady career is always a personal challenge, especially when you are a jack-of-all-trades and your skills are unrelated to one another. For instance, you could be an IT personnel but also have a knack for marketing. Or, you have potential as a human resource manager and yet some of your hidden talents can very well be used in sales. For some, being gifted with more than one skill is far better than just knowing one type of work all your life because you can do different things in your career journey. Needless to say, it is normal to feel unsatisfied with having only one job or one skill.
Unfortunately, however, even those with multiple skills might not be happy with what they possess. Nearly every working individual is not satisfied where they are and this not only affects work productivity but also personal career growth. It is no wonder for employees to always be looking for something fresh in their everyday professional work or personal life.

What should you do in order to not fall into the same cycle and finally get a fulfilling career? Many believe that an individual should at least love what they do to really put meaning and be satisfied. In that case, here are a few tell-tale signs that you have been in the wrong career. It only takes a matter of boldness to make a career switch or try to work something out that can finally help you discover the real potential in you.
1. Every day is not a new day
During your first months or years in the work, you are probably excited as can be, but all too sudden the excitement of going to work wears off and it did not take you long to finally realize you are almost dragging yourself up for work each day. Numerous studies show that this feeling is non-existent to those who are in the right career yet remains a frustrating feeling for those in the wrong one.
2. Mediocrity seems normal
Success seems far-fetched where you are. It is as if you cannot see the light in your long, dark tunnel. If any, success in your work is not even something that excites you. For you, it is enough that you go through the daily grind with no intention of making extra stretches. Status quo is how you would describe your career.
3. You strongly feel you should be doing something else
A common belief is that a lot of individuals will put themselves in a place of work on the merits only that others were successful in it and with the hope that they will reap the same results. For example, many startup-founder-to-be who lack proper knowledge and experience believe they can make a successful business just because others have done the business. The truth is, building up a business requires more than sleepless nights and personal savings.
Same as finding the right job. Marrying yourself to a job that has no soulful bearing will not only make you feel lost in your job. This is simply because you cannot force yourself to like a job you are not meant to do, let alone love it. The rule of thumb is don't follow others just because they have achieved success in it. If you are still not sure what you love or want to do, take your time to taste different careers until you discover the “this is it - this is for me” moment.
4. Your work performance is forgettable
Being in the wrong career creates a chain of reactions. One of which is unremarkable work performance. You have become a passive worker avoiding any leadership responsibility for possible recognition. While you still finish your work on schedule, nothing about it is significant to even merit commendation from your team leader or your superiors.
5. Stress is getting its way into you
This is not to say that your role or load of work is so much that it causes you great anxiety. The takeaway is the amount of stress you are experiencing even in the tiniest amount of tasks. In the same way that you cannot even determine your stressor even if you plan on managing it.
6. You begin to feel sorry for yourself
This could probably be the greatest blunder of all. Just when you see your colleagues experience the taste of success in their career you feel nothing but disappointment in yourself. The feeling gets harder to bear when you know to yourself that you are just as competitive as everyone else, if not better.
