What to Do If You Feel Unhappy with Your Current Job
by Emma • Isn, 20 Dis 2021 12:52PTG
No matter how much you love your job, there must have been a point where you feel unhappy doing it. While you may be upset with your current role at the moment, does it mean that you hate it? The truth is, feeling unhappy about your job is completely humane. Boredom, heavy workload, annoying coworkers, stagnant salary, or fear of missing out are among many reasons why such a feeling emerges. Now, what to do when the downtime comes? Before impulsively handing in your resignation letter, read this insight.
It is more common than you think
If you ever feel guilty for being unhappy at work despite millions losing jobs during the pandemic, know that you are not the only one facing the dilemma. A report conducted by Microsoft “Work Trend Index 2021 showed that 41% of the global workforce consider quitting their jobs due to exhaustion and overworking. No matter what your situation is, you need to keep these two things in mind: do not feel guilty for being unhappy and do not rush in making a decision. Here are four things you can do to overcome this feeling wisely:
1 . Ask Yourself: Why?
You know yourself better than anyone else that not even your HR manager can precisely tell what makes you unhappy with your job. First and foremost, ask yourself: “Why am I unhappy?”. This emotion may only last a short time attributed to boredom, but it is always best to be prepared for any hidden, more major obstacles. Ask yourself what part of your job makes you weary of going to work. Try to identify when you began to lose interest in your role and what caused you to feel that way. Too much work, hostile coworkers, demanding employers, and even external influences are all common causes. Interestingly, it is also sensible that you are dissatisfied with your job because you are unsure of what you genuinely desire. As a result, it might be difficult to feel comfortable or happy if you do not even know what you are aiming for.
2 . Unwind For a While
Be it due to tiredness or boredom, it is best to unwind for a while when the unhappiness emerges. Finding satisfaction and passion outside of the office may provide you with a much better attitude towards life at work. Take a few days off from work to get away from the mundanity of ordinary routine. Sometimes you do not really know you've been overworking until you don't have to work anymore. By taking some time off, you may be able to identify if your unhappiness is related to fatigue or something else. When you have less on your plate, you can think more clearly about what you want to do with your emotions.

3 . Talk to Your HR
If it turns out that the major problem indicates a lack of interest or from choosing the wrong career path, you must come up with a strategy accordingly. This should not be viewed as an immediate resignation. Contact your HR manager and request a formal meeting to discuss your future with the company. Unless you perform really terribly in your work, the HR manager will not want to let you go so easily. A smart HR manager should give you the option to change roles or divisions, providing you the opportunity to work in a completely different environment that better suits your passion. You can also request the opportunity to do remote working for quite some time if it can help you feel better about your job. While this is simply one option among many, it is a good place to begin planning your whole career.
4 . If All Else Fails…
If you have tried doing all three strategies and none of them worked, then maybe it is time to prepare for a change. If talking to the HR manager does not help, you might still plan an exit strategy. Change could be frightening, especially when it comes to one's work, yet it may be the first step toward true happiness. Changing divisions or companies does not guarantee a good career. Knowing that you have the power to control the path of your own career, on the other hand, may be enough to bring you happiness at work. Enhance your CV and contact out to recruiters to discuss new work options before filing for resignation.
Prior to actually quitting a job, make sure you have secured a new one. This will save you time and hassle of staying unemployed after resigning. You can begin looking for job opportunities here at Talentvis, as we have plenty of interesting job openings you can try!
