Why Should Campus Hiring Be Encouraged?

Recruiting the best individuals from the talent pools is key component to thrive in today’s complex business environment. When it comes to hiring young, fresh candidates foraying into the world of work, recruiters should start moving their recruitment strategy to college and university campus. Campus is the best place where you can seek to find brilliant future candidates and budding professionals, right before they graduate.

Typically new to the professional world, you might need to take a different approach to fetch and add these emerging new talents on your network. Besides employee referrals and intern hiring, on-campus recruitment is among the most effective offline methods to recruit, interview, and hire qualified candidates.

Jobvite Recruiter Nation Survey 2015 notes that only 27 percent organisations plan to increase investment in campus hiring, however better trend is shown by GMAC’s Corporate Recruiters Survey 2016.

Based on the worldwide survey conducted in Latin America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the United States, 89 percent respondents plan to conduct on-campus visits. This strategy includes wide-range of recruitment activities, such as reaching out to students via social media, posting job vacancies on school job boards, or conducting job fairs.

Asia-Pacific region holds the highest percentage of employers conducting on-campus recruitment, with majority 91 percent respondents planning to boost their campus hiring. Meanwhile, Latin America holds the lowest percentage as only 71 percent respondents plan to increase their campus recruitment activities.

These statistics demonstrate growing global employment trend of campus hiring. Through campus hiring, more recruiters can find the hidden gems and key talents.

Unless you want to be left behind, you should hop in to join the bandwagon and create your own campus recruitment strategy. Still doubt the effectiveness of the program? Here’s why you should encourage campus hiring in your organisation:

Attracting Quick-learners

Development of the high potentials and self-growth is the key to building a solid human resource team. One of the most significant factor why you should hire fresh grads and students is because they have great ability to understand and absorb something faster than other older candidates.

When entrusted with a certain job role that they don’t understand, such high-potential learners demonstrate strong eagerness to learn and willingness to do various types of jobs. Owing to this unique quality, your organisation can function more efficiently.

High levels of technology savviness

Beyond anything else, technology savviness is probably the biggest advantage you can get when hiring students. Growing up in a modern world where technology savviness is the norm, these candidates show better ability to navigate the new age of machines and computers.

Through effective use of this competency skills, young candidates can harness on technology to develop and build innovative business solutions.

Easier to manage

Compared to experienced veterans in the job market, fresh grads and students are easier to manage. Having no experience or sensing office politics, lack of cooperation and support from coworkers, or biased relationships at work, these candidates tend to focus solely on how to get their jobs done.

Hard-working team players

Ability to work in a team is crucial to cultivating an effective and efficient business operation. Young job seekers are known for their excellent communication skills that will help them gain better understanding between co-workers. Possessing high multi-tasking abilities, students will bring positive impact to your business bottom line.

For employers, conducting campus hiring is a strenuous time-consuming recruitment activity, especially interviewing students looking for jobs with no working experience, recruiters will have to look at academic qualifications and hire the best talents.

This method is not only beneficial for students to embark early on their professional journey but also for employers alike, to fetch the best talent and train them on job to deliver business expectations. Conducting on-campus recruitment also gives your organisation an opportunity to cast a wider net. If you want to stay abreast of the changing job market, it is time recruiters look at schools and campuses to bring high potential candidates into the world of work.
