Imagine waking up on Monday morning and realise that you have to get through another week of dwelling in the same routine. While you love your job, sometimes you cannot deny the fact that dealing with the same old task is boring. Office life seems to be flat and unchallenging until one day, you see this new guy at the office, wearing his neat suit walking like Chris Evans without his Captain America costume. “Oh…oh! This is going to be interesting!” He catches your eyes instantly, and suddenly you have a dinner appointment with him on Saturday night.

Mundane routines at the office might become much more interesting when you are involved in a romantic relationship with a coworker at the workplace. An office romance could be a sensitive issue for some companies. Some employers strictly forbid their employees to date their coworkers, while some others allow such relationship as long as they keep professional.

Not to mention, it will be hard to have a personal conversation at work with your partner without other employees trying to eavesdrop or know your business. Therefore, keep your relationship as a secret can be a wise decision as it also helps you separate personal and professional life with your partner.

Set some boundaries

As you know, you will spend almost all of your day at the office. It means that you will meet your office love interest in a daily basis. To avoid any personal problems that might affect your professional performance, you and your partner should agree on setting some ground rules and boundaries to keep the relationship professional. By drawing boundaries on your own business especially on things related to work, it will help you to professional all the time.

Keep your composure

There will be a time when you have to collaborate with your partner on the same project despite the fact that you had a fight the night before. When this happens, you have to stay professional and do your best to finish the task without interfering your work with your personal problem. Try to forget it first and solve your personal problem after work. When everyone knows about your relationship including your boss, you have to always maintain your performance, as it will prove that your relationship does not affect your professionalism.

Maybe for some people, having a romantic relationship with colleagues at the workplace can be a way to keep the excitement at work. However, it will be wiser to think about it twice before you start dating your officemate. Know your capacity in how far you can handle both personal and professional life at the same time.
